Letter of Appreciation From the Chief Editor

With only a few hours before the curtains fall on 2022 and we usher in a new year, I’m dropping in with this letter to express my gratitude for our success in 2022 and the last 3 years since I joined this platform.

First and foremost, I have to thank our readers. The engagement that we’ve seen from our audience this year has been nothing short of remarkable.

We’re particularly proud of what we were able to achieve in the coverage of the just concluded General Election, where we worked tirelessly to keep you informed and updated with the right information on all ongoings surrounding the election.

In return, you rewarded us with immense page views, impressions and engagement, and you have kept the momentum up to this moment.

We Thank you!

You also didn’t stop at that, because 2022 is also the year we were recognised as the second-largest digital news brand by the Reuters Institute Yearly Research on Journalism(RISJ).

We were also crowned as the Best Mobile App for Digital News by the Mobile App Summit and Awards 2022, closing our year in grand style.

For that, we’ll be forever grateful.

Next, I want to express how thankful I am for the incredible team of people who work tirelessly to make Opera News what it is, and this includes our in-house editorial team, our Hub Contributors, as well as our diverse content partners.

I can’t also fail to mention my right-hand man, Dickens Ooko, who is an astounding leader and community builder. He always reassures me when I’m panicking that things might be going wrong.

As for our boss Lucy, who sits all the way in South Africa, thank you for trusting us that we have got it all handled.

Besides strong and sustained readership, let’s also keep the emails and the comments coming because that’s how we will keep on improving and serving our audience better.

I could go on and on but let me end it there. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a happy New and Prosperous 2023.

Let’s push more limits!

Yours truly,

Irari Ngugi,

Chief Editor.
