Lucas Torreira Hints at Possible January Exit From Arsenal

Uruguay and Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira could be on his way out of London. The former Sampdoria man is in his second season at Arsenal but has found playtime hard to come by this season.

When he eventually does play, Unai Emery deploys him as an attacking midfielder rather than his preferred defensive midfield position. He is clearly unhappy with this as he sees it as a step backward in his career.

His agent stated last week that he is not happy with life at the Emirates and now, the players himself has hinted that he could be open for a move away from the club.

“Now, Arsenal needs me to be focused. I can’t start talking about another team. I need to be focused and when the transfer window arrives we will see what happens,” Torreira said after Uruguay’s 2-2 draw with Argentina.

The news would come as a huge blow for Arsenal who is set to lose yet another senior midfielder in Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss international has not played for the Gunners since his ill-advised reaction to the fans after being subbed off in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

Should the two leave in January, it would leave Arsenal with a gap to fill in midfield. The Gunners already lost Aaron Ramsey on a free when he joined Juventus in the summer and though they signed Dani Ceballos, he only joined on loan from Real Madrid.

Arsenal next plays on Saturday against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium from 6 PM East African time.
