Man United Linked With German Midfielder

Manchester United are reportedly courting Bayer 04 Leverkusen Kai Havertz midfielder as coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to beef up his squad in January after a difficult start to 2019/20 campaign.

The 20-year old German international scored 17 league goals and recorded three assists for the club last season and attracted interest from several clubs across Europe including Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

According to reports in the UK, United have earmarked the midfielder for signing. He is viewed as a player capable of replacing want-away Paul Pogba and will command a fee of around 80 million pounds, the same fee United paid for Pogba in 2018. The reports further add that United scouts will watch the player closely on Wednesday when Bayer plays Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League match.

Earlier this season, the midfielder admitted that he would be interested in a move to the English premier league by stating that he has garnered enough international experience that will enable him to flourish abroad in case he makes a move away from the club.

“I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen. I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany. For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterward, we’ll see,” he stated.

Should United acquire his services, it will be a huge boost for the Red Devils who are struggling in the league largely due to a lack of creativity in the team.
