Arsenal Part Ways With Coach

English Premier League giants, Arsenal have parted ways with head of youth scouting Steve Morrow as they continue with their restructuring under Head of football Raul Sanllehi.

Morrow is a former Arsenal midfielder and is best remembered for scoring the winning goal in Arsenal’s 1993 League Cup final win over Sheffield Wednesday before breaking his arm during the celebrations. He came through the Gunners’ youth system before moving to the senior team where he played between1988–1997.

He went on to play for QPR, Watford and Reading among other clubs before returning to Arsenal in 2008 International Partnerships – Performance Supervisor and served in different other roles before he was elevated to head of youth scouting.

Sanllehi had earlier stated that the club is facing challenges in making the young players coming through the team’s youth team realize their potential and it now appears that he has decided to ring changes in the youth set-up.

“Identifying, recruiting and developing young players is a key part of our strategy.  We have some great talent coming through our younger age groups and, like all top clubs, the challenge is to help them make the most of their abilities, “the football head stated.

The move comes in the wake of the close scrutiny directed at first-team head coach Unai Emery over the poor run the team is currently experiencing. The Spanish tactician is said to be on the verge of a sack if the club’s fortunes do not change for the better in the next few days.
