Police Officer on The Run Nabbed over KSh6 million Eastleigh’s Robbery

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a police officer and civilian in connection to last week’s robbery incident where two people were robbed Ksh6 million at Barwqo Lodge.

A statement posted by the DCI on Facebook disclosed that Police Constable Simon Mwaniki, who has been on the run since the robbery was last night, arrested at Kahawa West alongside Kelvin Marangu of DCI Kasarani and a civilian Martin Kithinji.

“Acting on Intelligence leads, Pangani Detectives intercepted a Toyota Caldina Registration Number KAY 443N occupied by the three and made the arrests.

After Interrogation, the DCI said, PC Mwaniki led detectives to his two houses at Kayole Junction and Hurlingham where the following were recovered fake Kenya Ksh29, 000 and US Dollars’ worth Ksh913, 000 in local currency.

The detectives also nabbed 30 live rounds of ammunition, 15 Speed Governors and recorded compliance certificates, forged Driving Licenses and suspicious documents.

The suspicious documents, according to DCI, included the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) stamps, Public Service Vehicle certificates and work permits.

The suspects will be arraigned tomorrow as DCI carries investigations to continue.

The increased number of police officers caught engaging in criminal acts lately has raised concerns among Kenyans.

On October 2, detectives seized 245 Kilos of bhang and Ksh239, 500 from three police officers near Kanyonyo Market along Garissa- Thika Highway.

On September 27, three police constables Simon Gichui Karuku, Florence Wanjiru Karuku and Caroline Njeri Waithera alongside a Kenya Defence Officer; Corporal Eunice Wangari Karuku arrested by detectives in connection with the ATM Heist at Nairobi West.
