Nominated MP Maina Kamanda has come under heavy criticism from a section of Kenyans after his alleged unfortunate remarks caught the attention of many.

Led by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, the leaders, especially from the Rift Valley region have called on the DCI to act swiftly and investigate Kamanda terming remarks made by the MP on Sunday while in Kibra as incitement on the two communities living in the Rift Valley region.

The seemingly agitated MP warned that they will not allow any careless political utterances to bridge peace which has been brought by the handshake in the region.

“I want to challenge Kamanda to show us any member from the Kikuyu community who has a title and has not returned to his farm. I want to assure Kamanda that he will not succeed in inciting us against each other despite our political affiliations. We are past that,” stated Sudi

He warned Kamanda against speaking on anything touching the two communities in the Rift Valley saying he knew nothing about the challenges the two communities had gone through.

“We will compete fairly in each election and whoever emerges the winner, that will never make us rise against each other. We have learned from our past,” added Sudi

In his Sunday’s speech, Kamanda, while referring to the past post-election outbreaks of violence, had observed members of his Kikuyu community had been killed in some parts of the nation.

“When our people were killed in 1992, 1997, 2008…we didn’t hear of a Luo who had killed any Kikuyu. Luo’s are only known for throwing harmless stones…but our people were killed” recounted Kamanda

“Our people are coming to us with title deeds because they cannot go back to their lands…and those who are seeking votes cannot stand and command that they are taken back to their farms,” added Kamanda

Kamanda’s remarks also got the fury of some online users who opined that the DCI boss George Kinoti should have immediately arrested the MP on Sunday evening for trying to take back the nation into the past dark days.

Here are some of the reactions;
