Betting firms have not been smiling though, with tough measures from government proving to be a rope that could easily hang them. The biggest firm, Sportpesa, however says it has registered commendable progress in having its license back after more than a month of uncertainty and beckoning job cuts.

The Mau eviction scare continues to spread with livelihoods disrupted. This is due to a move by the government to execute a notice for people living in water catchment areas to find alternative homes. Find out what the Deputy President has said about this.

Sportpesa Plotting Comeback after Breakthrough in Licensing Talks

SportPesa has been cleared by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and can now move to re-acquire its trading licence. According to a statement released on Tuesday, the giant sports betting firm revealed to customers that it had made noteworthy improvement in its engagements with relevant stakeholders regarding its licencing issue.

The firm can now apply for a new licence which is issued by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB). SportPesa was among 27 betting firms that had their trading licences revoked by the government due to failure in meeting tax compliance policies two months ago.

Deputy President William Ruto has finally broken his silence over the Mau eviction that is underway and threatening livelihoods in his Rift Valley Backyard. Ruto asked Mau residents to be calm and assured residents that the education sector will not be affected.

The DP had earlier on been quiet over the matter and had let it to his allies such as Kapsaret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who blasted the government over the evictions.

Magoha wants law proposing university in every county scrapped

The Education ministry has sought to amend the Universities Act to block a plan by lawmakers to establish universities in each county. Parliament passed the Universities Act in 2012, mandating that every county should have at least one public university.

But the ministry now wants universities to be established only when deemed necessary.
