DP Ruto in Kibra, Makes One Major Political Promise to Residents

DP Ruto on Wednesday toured Kibera barely a day after Jubilee Party picked football star McDonald Mariga as its flag-bearer.

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto on Tuesday toured Kibra constituency barely a day after Jubilee Party picked football star McDonald Mariga as its party flag-bearer in the coming by-election.

Addressing the residents, the DP began by acknowledging government projects in the area and said he had come to launch learning a dormitory at Moi Girls Nairobi which had cost the government Sh60 million.

He went ahead to announce the government’s plans to the residents and said they are aiming at empowering them academically.

About the Kibra by-election set for November 7, the DP promised to tour the area on a different day for a discussion.

“We will join hands with you. Okoth had invested a lot for the education of Kibra people. We want to ensure that the one who will take over will continue with the good work. I have come today because of the education of our children. I will come back we talk about the other matter or what do you think?” asked the DP.

He further asked the residents to give him a date on when he should come and have a talk with them.

In the video that has been shared by digital blogger on Facebook, Dennis Itumbi, the DP is heard concluding that: “you organize on Sunday we come and have a talk.”

With the entry of Jubilee Party into the by-election, political pundits have envisaged a showdown pitting DP Ruto and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.

However, ODM Secretary-General (SG) Edwin Sifuna dismissed Mariga’s candidature saying he was a non-issue to them.

Speaking to Citizen TV political affairs editor, Franci Gachuri, the SG said they aim at fielding a candidate that the Kibra people will want. He added that if the party achieves the objective then they are sure of victory.
