Nairobi Women Representative Hon Esther Passaris has revealed that she has been suffering from a post-maternity complication for the past 20 years.
According to the legislature, the health complication affected her sciatic nerve after giving birth making her uncomfortable to stand for long.
In a post on her social media, Passaris had to queue while on a wheelchair at Amsterdam airport while on her way to Portugal for a Joint Action Policy Day ahead of Harm Reduction Conference 2019.
“…my injured sciatic nerve/ L4/L5 bulging disc just couldn’t handle standing. Ever since my pregnancy 20 years ago, I’ve had challenges standing.” stated Passaris.
Women in Kenya suffers various complications after giving birth.
Majority suffers from fistula. The revelation by Hon Passaris is an indicator that our mothers have been silently suffering from these ailments.
However, Passaris also shared that as a remedy, she often does physiotherapy.
“I do physio to ease the pain but yesterday I tried Dry Needling and it did more harm than good.” stated Passaris.
