Employers will be required to deduct 1.5 percent of an employees salary towards the Housing Fund by the 9th of every month starting on May 2019.Β
A notice by the Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga states that the employer will also contribute 1.5 percent for each employee.
Well, top lawyer Nelson Havi has called out this move as the highest form of corruption in Kenya with regards to the government’s disobedience of the court orders as the house funding levy was suspended by the court in proceedings where the Government of Kenya is a party.
“GoK cannot win the war on corruption when it perpetrates it. It is that simple,” Nelson has stated.
The Federation of Kenya Employees has rejected the notice by the Housing Ministry in conjunction with the Kenya Revenue Authority on the implementation of the Housing Fund Levy, saying it’s contrary to court orders which are still in force.
In a statement, FKE said that court orders suspending the implementation of the levy is still on, up to May 20, 2019, when the case will come up again for mention.
Many Kenyans agreed that the house fund levy is contempt of court.
