American students Rally Online to save Kenyan teacher facing deportation

A Kenyan-born teacher residing in the US was left with a warm heart after a section of students remarkably came together to avoid his deportation. Students from Valor Christian school in Colorado, USA have reportedly intensified their efforts to try to keep their IT specialist Anthony Wanjiru in the country.

According to reports from FOX, Anthony grew up in a lower middle class setting while in Kenyan and eventually moved to the US in 2011. He would then go on to work his way up to earn a Masters’ Degree and eventually start work at the school since 2014. One glitch in his otherwise inspirational story was the fact that he was living in the US on a H-1B visa which that allows U.S. employers to temporarily employ foreigners.

Having applied for a renewal of the VISA but it was rejected, meaning he would have to make do witb the possibility of returning to Kenya after eight years. Wanjiru had made a name for himself at the school, had also won the hearts of many students through the years. On learning of his possible deportation, the students created a viral social media campaign in the hopes that a good samaritan might actually see it and take action.

Sources have learnt that since Donald Trump’s administration took over from Barrack Obama, cases of H-1B Visa rejections have been on the rise, with 41 % of applications being shut down in 2017. That is an alarming increase compared to the 13 % of Visa renewals denied during Obama’s tenure.
