Mudavadi Reveals Why He Prefers Hugs to Hand Shakes

Is Musalia Mudavadi the new voice of the Voiceless? The Amani National Congress Party leader seem to be winning the heart of Kenyans especially after he declared that he will be the last man standing after leaders that were with him in the quest for accountability and good governance seemingly went to bed with the government.

Musalia, while appearing on NTV’s Side Bar reiterated his remarks that the handshake has sort of brought laxity in the opposition with the opposition now accused of condoning rot in the government.

Mudavadi said that as much as the handshake brought peace and tranquility in the country, it is not a final solution to the problems facing Kenyans.

“Let us take time to understand ‘The Handshake’, while it has brought a semblance of tranquility it is not a final solution. The authors of this handshake need to convince the public that t wasn’t simply an agreement between two people,” said Mudavadi.

Commenting on Raila and Kalonzo’s new roles, Mudavadi pointed out that the fact that they (Opposition) are competing against the Jubilee Government, it will be difficult to keep it the government in check once one accepts it’s job offers.

“We were competing against the Jubilee government who now have the mandate. Once you take a government job, you are gagged in the spirit of collective responsibility. I want to be able to speak up when I see an issue in government,” added Mudavadi

According to the former Vice President, the handshake has been mistaken as a licence to steal public funds.

Mudavadi feels that corruption has gained more prominence with the opposition party NASA comprised of ODM, ANC and FORD Kenya, now sleeping on it’s job.

The ANC Leader says that the opposition has failed in it’s oversight role and that it no longer points out the rot in the society.

Speaking in Mombasa over the weekend, Mudavadi said corruption has become rampant in the National Assembly to an extent that reports are being doctored.

He cited the debates on contraband sugar and illegal maize imports whose outcomes were marred with bribery allegations.

“Parliament has gone to bed with the Executive and abandoned its sacred function of keeping the government in check. Parliament reports are either altered or diluted and mutilated to protect partisan interests and not those of the public,” Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi’s sentiments have been echoed by a number of Kenyans who actually feel that corruption and rot in government has increased ever since the now famous handshake.

On the 2/3 gender bill, Mudavadi voiced his support for the same stating that it is time it was fully addressed so that it stops recurring.

“I wish the Gender Bill would go through, as a constitutional issue. We need to address it fully so it stops recurring,” said Mudavadi.
