Despite Manchester boss Jose Mourinho revealing that Romelu Lukaku said he wasn’t ready for the FA Cup final, the Belgian international has a different version.
Mourinho felt that Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini were saving themselves for the world Cup but for Lukaku says they discussed his injury issue and the manager made the decision not hand him a start.
“I didn’t look good in training at all. So it was a difficult situation. Obviously, me and the manager had a conversation and he’s the one that made decision. But at the end of the day we had a conversation after the game where we were both disappointed that we lost.”
With no bad blood to speak of, Lukaku is relishing the post-World Cup challenge of mounting a fresh assault on Manchester City, who finished 19 points ahead of United as champions this time around.
