Happy New Month Fam.
It is December again. That time of the year when we retreat to our villages parte afte aparte. A friend of mine joked that this is the time of the year when you walk with a chaser drink because you don’t know where alcohol will meet you.
The only downside of this month is the heavy rains that are pounding different parts of the country. In Kisumu County, at least 600 families are counting losses after River Nyando broke its banks. More than 20,000 people in West Pokot are homeless after recent landslides.
As this continues, it looks like the government has grounded to a standstill since the launch of the BBI report on Wednesday.
Our politicians were in different parts of the country over the weekend for political rallies that were disguised as Harambees. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was the chief guest at a Kieleweke function in Kirinyaga County. He made some interesting remarks on the leadership of this country.
Here are the stories making headlines on Opera News:
Matiang’i for President?
Powerful Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is reportedly planning for a presidential run following signals that he has secured the backing of two of the country’s most influential leaders.
The details emerged as Matiang’i and Deputy President William Ruto openly clashed — signalling the increasing bad blood between the duo — who could face off in the 2022 presidential duel.
Floods Wreck Havoc in Nairobi
Disaster management officers have been deployed in all the 17 sub-counties of Nairobi amid heavy downpour that has caused flooding in several estates.
The move follows a warning from the weatherman that the capital city is among regions that will experience heavy rains in the coming days.
Nairobi has experienced heavy rains for the last three days.
MP’s Brother Stabbed Multiple Times
It was already a sad occasion.
The family of Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi was planning a memorial service for his father when a deadly fight broke out between his brother and a nephew.
Now they have to plan another memorial and funeral for his own brother.
Joseph Wekesa, 35, from Buema village in Musikoma ward, was stabbed multiple times in the chest with a kitchen knife, allegedly wielded by his nephew, Nicholas Wafula, 30.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i is allegedly contemplating to run for the presidency in 2022. It is believed that both President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga are prepared to back the powerful CS. Do you think Matiang’i can make a good president?
