Kalonzo Allies Make New Demands to Raila Ahead of 2027; President William Ruto’s Allies Call for Arrest of Azimio Leader Raila Odinga & Why Kenyans are Eagerly Awaiting Court Ruling on Ruto’s Finance Act

Last week, Kenya was rocked by anti-government protests led by opposition leader Raila Odinga. The protests have been sparked by several factors, including the rising cost of living and alleged electoral fraud.

Odinga has accused President William Ruto of failing to address the concerns of ordinary Kenyans. He has also called for Ruto to step down, alleging that he stole the 2022 presidential election.

On Saba Saba day, he also launched a 10 million signature collection drive to help remove President Ruto from office.

Siaya Governor James Orengo challenged President William Ruto and his deputy to wake up and face reality, adding that the signature collection that began last week will result in their removal from office.

“We had done it before when parliament proved to be acting contrary to the wishes of the people,” Orengo said, adding that the country had reached a situation where the opposition must go back to the people to exercise their sovereignty to bring about change.

The protests have been met with a heavy-handed response from the government. Police have used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters, and there have been reports of fatalities.

It is too early to say what the long-term effects of the protests will be. However, they have shaken the foundations of Kenya’s democracy.

With the opposition planning for another mega demonstration on Wednesday, do you think the government will give in to Azimio and their demands?
