On Thursday, social media went awash with claims that Uhuru’s security detail had been withdrawn. The allegations emerged after Azimio-affiliated blogger Pauline Njoroge and Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai issued statements disclosing that there were changes in former President Uhuru’s security detail.
To clarify on the matter, reliable sources have confirmed that indeed changes in security details were made by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kenya Police Service Edward Mbugua with the directive affecting not just the former head of state but also others of his family members, individuals allied to former cabinet secretaries, former Interior minister Fred Matiang’i and former Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.
The government, however, refuted claims that the move is political saying that the affected individuals were not targeted but instead the directive was issued with an intention of reorganizing the security personnel in a more effective structure.
Following the changes, the number of officers assigned to Uhuru is now at 25 from 96 while the former first lady has been left with 5. Further reports reveal that Matiangi and Kibicho now have 2 officers each as opposed to the 18 officers that were previously assigned to them during Uhuru’s reign.
In other news, opposition party leader Raila Odinga will be hosting yet another protest on Sunday with the main agenda being pushing for President Ruto’s administration to offer lasting solutions to challenges faced by Kenyans and further call for his resignation. The rally will be held at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra, Nairobi.
