Olivier Giroud On Target As Chelsea See Off Spurs

Chelsea went back to winning ways in the league after a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard made a few changes to his starting line up picking Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso who both missed the loss to Manchester United last Monday.

Olivier Giroud scored the opener after a great ball from Jorgingo sent him through. The striker shot but the ball was kept out by Hugo Lloris. Mason Mount picked the rebound which came off the post but Giroud was on hand to blast in his first goal of the season.

Spurs were limited to their own half and barely threatened the Chelsea goal in the opening half.

The second half started off with a bang for Chelsea. Olivier Groud was again involved, his ball to Mount led to Ross Barkley setting up Marcus Alonso who struck a sweet low shot past Hugo Lloris for his second of the season and Chelsea’s second.

There was VAR controversy when Harry Winks clearly fouled Cesar Azplicueta but the ref nor VAR did not see it worthy of a sending off despite multiple replays showing otherwise.

Jose Mourinho sent on Eric Lamela for the ineffective Ndombele and it was the substitute who was played in by Lucas Moura and his shot deflected in past Willy Cabellero in the Chelsea goals with one minute left to play.

The Blues held on to win and cement their position in fourth on the table with 44 points. Spurs remain fifth with 40 points, just one ahead of Sheffield United who hosts Brighton later on Saturday.
