Boost for Raila as Two Rift Valley Governors Declare Their Support at Narok BBI Rally

West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and his Samburu counterpart Moses Lenolkulal on Saturday attended the Narok BBI rally where they expressed their complete support for the course and that of their community.

Speaking during the rally which was led by the ODM leader Raila Odinga, Lonyangapuo assured the attendees that a big section of the Rift Valley was solidly behind the BBI course.

Lonyangupuo also added that the BBI course ought to unite Kenyans and enhance inclusivity among people from all walks of life.

“I have come to join you to say that we from West Pokot and North Rift we are together.

“And if this BBI is going to unite Kenyans and better our lives on value additions especially on us we the pastoralists then we are solidly behind it. Let us not divide Kenyans on avoidable issues. Let us love one another and unite the country,” said Lonyangapuo.

This is the first rally, led by the ODM leader, that Governor Lonyangapuo and Lenolkulal have been party to.

Their stand comes as a boost to the course given that the Rift Valley region is apparently yet to give the BBI initiative a confident nod.

Another Rift Valley Governor who has always backed the BBI course is Alex Tolgos, Elgeyo Marakwet.

The Governors’ solid declaration on the course comes even as their counterparts, from the same region among other leaders, poke holes into the BBI initiative.

Led by Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been sceptical in the BBI journey with others accusing it of plotting to scuttle the presidential ambitions of the DP.

On several functions, Tanga Tanga leaders have been castigating the BBI course labelling it a divisive approach that can’t unite the country.

During the Narok BBI rally, DP Ruto’s ardent supporters were missing in actions despite having attended the previous rallies.

Kalenjin leaders from the Maa counties also boycotted the rally on grounds that it had sidelined them in its build-up.

The next BBI rally is set for Garissa on Sunday.
