Arsenal is close to sealing a deal for the signing of 21-year-old Senegal midfielder Papa Gueye. The midfielder currently plays for French Ligue 2 side Le Harve.
The left-footed player is reportedly available for just £5 million to the Gunners in the summer. He has been described as a crossbreed of World Cup-winning midfielders Paul Pogba and Ngolo Kante.
His contract ends in the summer of 2021 which means that the Gunners could get him for a cut-price of just five million Euros. Should the move materialize, he will follow in the footsteps of Arsenal youngster Matteo Guendouzi who joined the club from Ligue 2 side Lorient and has become a key figure and player at the club.
It is believed that Gueye would be a Granit Xhaka replacement. The two players have the same qualities in that they are very good passers of the ball, play deep in midfield and both are left footers. Gueye, however, has the added advantage of being more athletic than Xhaka and is also relatively young.
Arsenal wants to complete all their deals for the summer before the European Championships begin in June as they fear they could be priced out of players once the tournament kicks off.
Meanwhile, the Arsenal players and coaching staff have returned to London following a one-week training camp in Dubai. The team will now prepare for their next Premier League fixture at the Emirates Stadium against Newcastle on Sunday.
