Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has revoked the appointment of Prof Stephen Kiama as the new Vice-Chancellor of University of Nairobi (UoN).
The CS has instead appointed Deputy VC (Finance, Planning and Development) Prof Isaac Mbeche to act as the new VC pending consultation.
At the same time, Magoha dissolved Julia Ojiambo’s led UoN Council.

Prof Kiama will continue to dispense his duties as the deputy VC, Human Resource and Administration a position he held before his appointment as the VC.
Prof. Ojiambo will no longer serve as the Chairperson of the Council of the University of Nairobi.
Members of the council who have been kicked out include Flora Mtuweta Mighulo Maghanga, Jocelyn Marie Rarieya, Hassan Abdi Mohamud, Isaac Chebon Kiprop, and Kariuki Muchemi.
The university council led by Prof Julia Ojiambo on January 5, announced the appointment of Prof Kiama to replace the outgoing VC Prof Peter Mbithi.
“I take this opportunity to thank the Public Service Commission, Council colleagues, the Ministry of Education, the entire university fraternity and Chancellor for according the recruitment process and respective facilitative instruments and agencies a chance,” Prof Ojiambo said.
He was to begin his term immediately if his appointment was endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However the President declined to approve his appointment.
