Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists that the Carabao Cup semifinal tie between his side and rivals United is not yet decided despite picking a 3-1 win at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Goals from Bernado Silva, Riyad Mahrez and own goal from Andreas Pereira helped the Citizens register a comfortable victory at home and they head into the second leg at the Etihad with a comfortable advantage.
Guardiola, however, feels his side has not sealed a final berth just yet. He pointed out at United’s comeback victory in the UEFA Champions League last year. The Red Devils had suffered a 2-0 defeat at home but went to Paris and picked a 3-1 win that ensured progression to the next round.
“It was a good result for us but I take note of what happened in the second half for the second leg in three weeks. This is not three points. It is not done. Last season they lost 0-2 against PSG and then they went to France and qualified,” he said.
United was terrible in the first half but upped their game after the interval and scored a consolation goal through Marcus Rashford and Guardiola believes the inspired second-half show from Ole Gunnar’s men should be a concern for his team heading into the second leg showdown.
‘Everything can happen in football and I know after what happened in the second half they are a dangerous team. I’ve spoken to the players and told them it’s not over,” he added.
