Kenyan 3000m steeplechase athlete Kennedy Muriithi Njiru has passed on after he was involved in a road accident on Monday evening in Nyeri-Nyahururu road.
Njiru who was also a Kenya Defense Force (KDF) officer attached to Nyahururu died on the spot after the car he was driving lost control on the Nyahururu-Nyeri road before colliding head-on with an oncoming tour vehicle.
The accident left three Russian tourists who were on the tour vehicle with serious injuries. They were rushed to the hospital and are said to be in stable conditions.
Njiru represented Kenya at the 21st Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba Nigeria. He finished 14th in the final race that was won by compatriot, Conseslus Kipruto.
