Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is cooling off his tired legs at the dreaded Industrial Area Remand Prison. Sonko, who told the court on Monday that he suffered broken ribs during his dramatic arrest on Friday, will be a guest of the state for at least two more nights.
Conspiracy theorists suggest that the flamboyant governor may be at the facility for the entire week. Imagine if his bail application forms go to court with some ‘technicalities’ and Magistrate Douglas Ogoti postpones the ruling to Friday because Thursday is a public holiday.
Let us also not forget that Ogoti is the magistrate who slapped Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal with a Ksh100 million bail. If Sonko is slapped with such a hefty bail condition on Friday, there is no way he will raise the amount before the close of business. Another weekend in custody?
As Sonko deals with the hungry mosquitoes of Industrial Area, questions have been raised on his team of lawyers. His legal team includes Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Mutula Kilonzo Junior. The Senate is supposed to oversight these governors.
These senators are supposed to grill Sonko and ultimately deliberate on his impeachment if it comes to that. Can we trust them to do that?

A headteacher from a local primary school led the al Shabaab militants in the bus attack that killed 11 passengers in Wajir, police have said.
Police say, Mohammed Hussein Hassan, has since escaped to Somalia after the government deployed a team to comb Wajir for the militants.

A man was Monday charged with attacking a waitress with a knife, forcing her to suck his penis, raping her and robbing her of Sh630 from her M-Pesa account.
Charles Mbusiro, however, denied the charge before Kibera senior resident magistrate Boaz Ombewa.
Mbusiro is accused of raping Angela (not her real name) after forcing her to divert from her gate to a muddy and bushy place in Uthiru within Nairobi on December 4.
ODM Picks Team to Simplify BBI
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM party has picked a technical team to break down the Building Bridges Initiative report for the public.
The team, made up of top lawyers, academicians and party officials is expected to simplify the 156-page document into a language that is easily understood by ordinary Kenyans.
The ODM’s move is informed by the fact that the report in its current state is too complex with a lot of legalese.
