Heavy Traffic Jam Anticipated Along Thika Highway on Friday Ahead of MKU Graduation

Heavy traffic is expected along Thika Highway on Friday as Mount Kenya University(MKU) is set to celebrate its 17th Graduation Ceremony in their Thika main campus.

According to MKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Research Affair, Dr Bibianne Waiganjo, a total of over five thousands graduands will be awarded certificates, diploma and conferred degrees in their main campus.

A high number of vehicles to come and in and out of the campus is expected to be very high which has seen security officers deployed in Thika and its environs to ensure that the ceremony goes on smoothly.

In 2018, there was a traffic jam that lasted over four hours on Thika Highway when MKU last held their graduation.

The chairman of the graduation security committee, Thika East Assistant County Commissioner Onesmus Muriuki said his team will ensure the ceremony goes on as planned with few inconveniences experienced.

He said, “in order to manage the huge crowd expected for the graduation, there will be ten sectors which will be manned by a security commander to ensure everyone enjoys the ceremony.”

Event operation commander Michael Mwaura, who is also Thika East Sub-County police commander, said 24hr security operation in Thika and its environs to ensure the graduation ceremony goes on smoothly.

He urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly locked.

The chief guest will be education minister Prof. George Magoha.

The Cooperative University of Kenya is set to celebrate its Graduation ceremony on Friday also.
