Why You Should Stop Eating Samosas In The Evening

If there is one thing Kenyans love eating in the evening is, tea and most of the time, it’s accompanied by mandazi, samosa or smokie.

A samosa in a regular restaurant or supermarket would go for Ksh. 40 which is very pocket-friendly.

Some of the places you can never miss samosas include, chamas, corporate functions in a hotel/school or office, weddings, when there are guests at home or baby showers. It has become a norm that needs to reduce because it can affect your health negatively.

Here are the reasons why you need to stop having samosas in the evening;

1. It’s high in salt. When preparing, the dough and filling contain a lot of salt so that it may make the samosa more delicious. Due to this, it will leave you more hungry, you will have damaged skin and water retention (whereby the extra water stored in your body raises blood pressure.)

2. It’s rich in carbohydrates. They contain potato fillings that are fried with excess butter, salt, and refined flour. This is not a healthy carb, it will simply make you add calories which leads to weight gaining.

3. It’s deep-fried. Some hotels and restaurants use recycled oil which is not healthy. Samosas are deep-fried and for them to be served tasty they must be re-fried which increases trans fats. Trans fats are associated with heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, and obesity.

4. It’s high in calories. A samosa contains 240 calories approximately with saturated fats, carbohydrates, and no other nutrients. But once it’s re-fried it increases that results to the above diseases.

5. It’s packed with refined flour. This is a part of wheat flour that has no germs or bran. It’s whiter and has more elasticity. Refined flour is bad for your health and results in high blood pressure and blood sugar levels which causes metabolic dysfunction.

6. It contains a lot of butter. If you have been wondering why the samosa tastes very yummy, butter is the reason behind it.  Butter is normally found in the outside layer of the samosa but it’s unhealthy. This is because it is high in saturated fats that lead to heart diseases and obesity.

7. The refined flour may be bleached. This is whereby the refined flour has a whitening agent. They contain chemicals like Azodicarbonamide, chlorine gas and benzoyl peroxide which cause harm to the pancreas and affect insulin production.

We are not asking you to stop eating samosas, enjoy them but have a limit.
