The Rise and Fall of MCA Behind City Hall Chaos

Jubilee Party has finally cracked the whip on Nairobi County Leader of Majority Abdi Guyo in a move the party hopes will ease the tensions at City Hall.

Guyo shot to County limelight when he won a controversial election against his erstwhile political nemesis Mr Samuel Matheri to become the Matopeni/Spring Valley ward MCA.

Accused of being the force behind Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi’s woes, Guyo is said to have succeeded in imposing his will in all affairs concerning MCA welfare.

Among the crimes Guyo is accused of are corruption, intolerance and high-handedness.

The youthful MCA was also reported to have been behind a violent standoff at Elachi’s office in October when she returned after staying away for more than a year.

Elachi was reported to have returned to her offices in the company of ODM MCAs when a rival team led by Guyo clashed with them, destroying office furniture.

The fight attracted police officers who lobbed teargas canisters from inside the office forcing journalists and MCAs to run to safety.

Speaking from the scene of the crime, Elachi blamed the violence on Guyo, saying the Matopeni MCA had vowed to have her killed by midday.

She also alleged that Guyo had come into County Hall with a group of goons identified as Gaza to terrorize her.

However, on his part, Guyo had constantly blamed Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko for associating him with the chaos at the County assembly.

Tuesday, November 12, Jubilee Party ejected Guyo from the position of the Majority Leader of the house to replace him with Dandora III Ward Rep Peter Thuo Wakarindi.

Also caught up in the ouster was Nairobi County Assembly’s Chief whip Waithera Chege.

The Party stated they had received complaints from the County’s top leadership about Guyo’s conduct.
