The biggest game in English football takes center stage on Sunday as Manchester United hosts Liverpool at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have had a poor start to the season and are currently 13th on the log with nine points while Liverpool has won all their league matches so far and top the table with 24 points.
All the signs point to Manchester United losing the match but history suggests otherwise. Indeed, Liverpool has not won at Old Trafford in their last six Premier League visits there. Manchester United has won three while the others have been drawn.
Even last season when Liverpool enjoyed a very positive Premier League season, they still could not beat Manchester United at their own backyard and drew this fixture 0-0 on their way to a second-place finish where they lost the league by a single point.
With Manchester City winning on Saturday, the pressure is on Liverpool to win which could suit Manchester United’s game plan for the match. As Ole Gunnar has shown so far, he is more comfortable setting up the team to defend first and hit opponents on the counter.
This could work especially with the news that speedy forward Anthony Martial is back from injury. To put it quite simply, Manchester United cannot afford to lose this match and a draw could be seen as a positive judging by both team’s current form.
The match kicks off at 18.30 East African Time. Can Manchester United ring a surprise and end Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the season? Share your thoughts in the comments section below…
