Good morning,
We thank God for another Friday and we hope you’ve had a great week. One man who has had an awful week is Babu Owino.
The Embakasi East MP has received social media backlash after he insulted Deputy President William Ruto during a political rally in Kibra. Babu used unprintable words against Ruto, warning him not to disrespect ODM leader Raila Odinga.
According to netizens, Babu is just an older version of the Consolata Primary school pupil, who recorded a video of himself insulting a schoolmate.
However, the MP has remained defiant despite the backlash, saying he learnt how to insult people from senior politicians.
Here are the stories making headlines on Opera News
Majority of Kibra Voters Undecided
Nearly half of Kibra voters are yet to decide on the candidate they will elect to succeed the late Ken Okoth, a survey commissioned by ODM has shown.
The poll, however, suggests Imran Okoth is the most preferred candidate with 27 per cent approval.
Residents Want Uhuru to Rethink Kimwarer Dam
Residents of North Rift have criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cancellation of the multi-billion Kimwarer mega-dam project, poking holes on the technical team report that recommended its termination.
They said the project would have greatly improved their livelihoods.
Kieleweke MPs to Back Raila Man
Nominated Jubilee MP Maina Kamanda announced on Thursday that he will back ODM’s Imran Okoth in the Kibra by-elections. This is despite Jubilee fielding MacDonald Mariga in the same poll.
Kamanda is expected to lead other politicians in the Jubilee wing of Kieleweke, in supporting Imran, a brother to the late Ken Okoth.
“You will see other MPs come out to support Imran because of the peace we have witnessed as a country. I am here as a person, not representing anybody,” the former Starehe MP said during a press conference.
As the debate for or against constitutional changes continues, the odds keep defying the Ekuru Aukot-sponsored Punguza Mzigo Bill. The proposals, which seek to, among others, reduce the burden of a high wage bill by scrapping off some political positions, continue to face rejection in different counties. So far, only one county, Uasin Gishu, has passed the bill with four others, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Siaya and Homa Bay rejecting it. For Punguza Mzigo to proceed to any other stage, Aukot needs to convince 23 others county assemblies to agree to his proposals within the next 30 days, which will be the expiry date of the time provided by the law. Gives us your thoughts on whether you think the bill will proceed or is destined for a major fall.
