Broke Gor Mahia Turns to Sonko as SportPesa ‘Terminates Partnership’

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia, will on Tuesday September 10 hold a fundraiser at Charter Hall Nairobi.

The fundraiser is aimed at helping the club raise funds to run it’s day to day activities following the exit of lone sponsor, Sportpesa.

The giant betting firm pulled a plug on sports sponsorship owing to a tax row between them and the government, a move that has seen Sportpesa close business for two months now after the government declined to renew its license.

Gor have now confirmed that they will hold a fundraiser to enable them honor league and Caf Champions League assignments. Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will be the guest of honor in the event that will also be graced by club Patron Raila Odinga among other dignitaries.

“Gor Mahia Football Club harambee will be on 10th September at Charter Hall (City Hall). Guest of honor will be Governor Sonko. All are Welcome,” club organizing secretary Judith Anyango said in a statement.

The KPL champions began the 2019/20 in style by thrashing Tusker FC 5-2 in Kisumu a week ago. They lead the log on goal-difference and will have a chance to extend their lead further when they play Chemelil Sugar FC in Kisumu this coming weekend.
