Exclusive : AFC Leopards Midfielder Set For Extended Stay on The Sidelines

AFC Leopards midfielder Marvin Nabwire will be out until 2020 after the club ruled out an early return from a knee injury he picked in December 2018 during a league match against Sofapaka.

What looked like a minor knee tweak after he collided with then Sofapaka midfielder Dennis Odhiambo saw the budding attacking midfielder booked for surgery which he underwent in April this year.

He has been on recovery path and it was rumored that he could make an early comeback from the injury but the club has now confirmed that the Kakamega High School alumnus will be out until 2020 as he is still on rehab.

“Marvin is still out until January 2020. You know a knee surgery is a delicate procedure and we cannot rush him back because we could end up causing more harm. He is currently on rehab and that means he will not be part of the team in the first leg, we hope by January he will be ready to play and so far his rehabilitation is going on well, “Club Secretary General Oliver Sikuku told Opera News.

Nabwire took the Kenyan Premier League by storm when he joins Leopards in January 2018 from Kakamega High School. At the end of the season he was named first runners-up in the young new player of the year category at the Kenyan Premier League awards gala.

He was also called to the Kenya U23 and Kenya Senior team squads but is yet to feature for any of the the sides.
