President Uhuru has abolished the public celebration of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s memorial after 41 years.

Speaking after laying a wreath of flowers at the mausoleum of founding president, Uhuru said he had consulted with his family and they will be celebrating their father in private.

“As President, I have consulted the family of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and after consulting them, we have agreed together that this is going to be the last celebration of Mzee in this manner,” he remarked during a mass at All Saints Cathedral.

Uhuru said that the leadership of the country should not just be about the dynasties but its time to make a difference to the people.

He said he still remembers the death of his father 41 years ago because he thought it was the end of the world.

“I remember this very early morning 41 years ago still very vividly and to some of us it looked as if it was the end of the world because we could not imagine life without him”
