Raila breaks silence on gold scam, says Matiang'i as clean as cotton

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga political stand in the 2022 politics has been creating speculations on whether the veteran politician will vie in 2022 or not.

From aging claims of ODM leader to the handshake deal, Kenyans have remained in the dark on whether Raila will still take to the ballot for the 5th time in search of the presidential seat.

While attending the burial of  David Ombati, his personal doctor in Kitutu Chache North in Kisii County on Friday, Raila dismissed claims that he was eyeing the presidential seat in 2022.

He claimed that his only mission was to unite the country and help President Uhuru Kenyatta realise the Big Four agenda legacy .

“I am not interested with 2022 politics my aim is to unite Kenyans, fight corruption and help Uhuru achieve the Big Four Agenda, that is all,” said the former premier.

His elder brother Oburu Odinga who spoke before the ODM leader said Raila would be in the ballot in 2022 describing him as young and energetic. He asked the Gusii community to support him as their preferred candidate.

“Raila is still young. If am still young how about him. In 2017 you overwhelmingly voted for him and we ask you to vote him again in 2022. Don’t tire,” said Oburu.

Raila as well used the occasion to speak on the gold scandal saga. He took on Deputy President William Ruto for linking the oppostion and Interior CS Matiangí in the scandal claiming that Matingí is as clean as cotton.

“These people who are yapping around are known cartels who are afraid of Matiang’i. We all know the history of Matiang’i, in all the positions he has held there is a mark of competence and clean records,” he the Opposition chief.

” I know Matiang’i as a good and very hardworking person. He worked in my office when I was the prime minister. On the issue of fake gold, he is as white as cotton,” said Raila.

Ruto had previously linked the opposition with the fake gold scandal claiming that the culprits were well known .

Other leaders who accompanied the Opposition chief were Kisii Governor James Ongwae chache south Member of Parliament Richard Onyonka, Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, Kisii women representative Janet Ongera The area Jubilee Member of Parliament Jimmy Nuru Angwenyi skipped the event.
