It’s official! GINIWASEKAO! Gor Mahia are the Kenyan Premier League Champions for the third consecutive season and for the 18th time overall, extending their already impressive record. Hassan Oktay’s side drew 1-1 with Vihiga United at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos but the result here was already not relevant as Bandari FC dropped points against Mathare United earlier.

Just like last season, the did it with games to spare and with the kind of confidence that has come to be expected from them.

Charles Momanyi headed the champions in front in the first half following after a perfectly floated ball from Francis Kahataleft him with the easy job of doing the ball home. The match was played at a very slow tempo, perhaps due to Gor Mahia’s knowledge that they had already completed the job even before kick off.

Overall, K’Ogallo has proved why they are the best team in the land, head, and shoulders above the rest. The Champions started the season with unconvincing performances and even lost their first match against Bandari leading many to dismiss them earlier on. Vihiga equalized in the second half but that was never going to stop Gor Mahia’s party!

Oktay’s side however despite playing on four fronts fought back and quickly reestablished their dominance in the league. Since the turn of the year, Gor Mahia has only lost two league matches, one against KCB in January and the other one week ago at Nzoia Sugar’s backyard.

Unless something drastic happens or a team really steps up to the challenge, the signs are that Gor Mahia’s dominance will continue next season too!
