Form 2 Girl Commits Suicide over ‘Pressure to Perform’

A form two student has committed suicide by hanging herself in the school’s dormitory while other students were attending morning preps.

The Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls’ school student is said to have left a suicide note containing the reasons she decided to take her own life so soon.

Joan Mumbi,19, was found hanging in the dormitory with a bed sheet tied around her neck.

According to Mathira West deputy county commissioner Charles Monari, the girl, who was a mother of one, left behind a suicide note alleging that she took her life due to pressure from her father to perform better in her studies.

 

In the suicide note found inside her desk in class, the girl also included her parent’s separation as a factor behind her decision to commit suicide, adding that she had also requested to be transferred to another school.

The deceased was staying with her father while her child, whom she conceived while in Class Six, was living with her mother.
