Most teens do bit their nails. Some of the adults who started the habit while young have not yet stopped doing that. Nail biting is a common habit that affects people of all ages that they may have picked up as a child which many people do not pay attention to, but very harmful.

Your nails are an ideal location for bacteria to thrive, and that includes potentially pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli. Sometimes nail biting is a sign of stress, feeling hungry, insecurity, feeling emotional or bored. Biting helps the person to cope with these feelings. 

You can stop this habit by;

1. Cut the nails short

When your nails are short, the teeth will completely have no nail to bite.

2. Chewing gum

Make your mouth busy by chewing gum. This will help your mind to keep off focusing on your nails.

3. Apply anti-nail biting polish

This will completely help you to keep off your nails in your mouth. This polish tastes as an exploded battery and continue even after removing your teeth. This will serve well to help you keep off your fingers away.

4. Keep your hands busy

To stop biting your nails, find out what you can do such as keeping your hands in your pockets or fiddle an object or clasp your hands.

It is quite important to stop nail biting because you may contract germs by always putting your hands in your mouth, the skin damage caused can also harbour germs. Biting nails will also result in strange looking nails.
