South African 800m champion Caster Semenya has on Monday morning alerted the public that her phone number has been hacked.

At first, she was alerted to some suspicious behaviour on her WhatsApp account on Friday evening. She shared a Facebook status clarifying the breach. Now it seems things have escalated since then, and she’s been forced to tell her, 242 000 followers, that she’s no longer in control of the messages her phone is sending:

Taking to Twitter to break the news, Caster Semenya said that “Alert!!!! My mtn number has been hacked, anyone who has my mtn number please don’t use it anymore, hackers are in control of it. They are asking money from you all. Get rid of that number please.”

The South African Olympic champion has been on the limelight this past few weeks following a loss in a case against IAAF. The landmark ruling was made against the athlete and it was on matters testosterone levels in female athletes.

The two-time Olympic champion won the women’s 800 metres at the Doha Diamond League meeting on Friday in her first race since losing her appeal over a controversial gender ruling.

Following the ruling, Caster Semenya will have to take medication to control her levels of testosterone or change to a different distance.
