Arsenal Star Aubameyang Reveals Why He Doesn’t Want To Face Chelsea In Europa League Final

Arsenal star Aubameyang reveals why he doesn’t want to face Chelsea in Europa League final | Football | Sport

Arsenal have played Chelsea twice this season, tasting defeat and then victory in the league fixtures.

The London rivals look primed to face each other once more, however – this time with the Europa League trophy at stake.

Arsenal won 3-1 at home against Valencia in the first leg of their semi-final tie in midweek, while Chelsea drew 1-1 at Frankfurt.

Aubameyang scored a last-minute volley to firmly swing the tie in the Gunners’ favour, but is already wary of facing Maurizio Sarri’s side for the impressive 15kg piece of silverware.

“No, I don’t want them,” the Gabon international said when posed with the idea of facing Chelsea in the Baku showdown.

“We know they are a great team but hopefully first we will go to the final and then I prefer to play Frankfurt, because we have already played against Chelsea.

“I know Frankfurt are really good and if we both go through to the final it will be a hard one.”

It looks likely that one of Arsenal and Chelsea will be fighting not just for the title but also the chance to secure Champions League football next term.

In the meantime, both sides are hoping it isn’t them with the added pressure in Azerbaijan by focusing on the remaining two league games.

Aubameyang’s 19 league goals have so far aided that bid, with the striker just two goals shy of the division’s leading marksman Mohamed Salah.

On the race for the Golden Boot, Aubameyang said: “It’s a tough battle.

“We have great strikers in the Premier League. Hopefully they won’t keep scoring, but I’m a guy who is confident and I know that I can do it.

“If I don’t, no worries, that’s no problem. But there are still two games to play in the league so I have my chances. Why not?

“I won it two years ago in Germany, in the last game. Me and [Robert] Lewandowski were level on 30 goals and on the final day I scored a penalty.

“When you are a striker it means a lot. If you want to be the best you have to win the Golden Boot.”
