Embattled Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is facing imminent arrest over misappropriation of close to Ksh 2.8 billion, has warned the Directorate of Criminal Investigations against arresting him.

Through a statement sent to newsrooms, Waititu has insisted that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is the only body mandated to investigate the alleged misappropriation.

‘The DCI should desist from targeted arrests and vigilante mob justice being advanced by sections of the media and blogs’ Reads part of the statement from Kiambu county.

The governor has been asked to explain how set millions of money aside for activities like Free Primary Education, Administration of statutory benefits to retired presidents and South Sudan Peace keeping missions.

At first, the governor accused the Auditor General’s office for sneaking the documents to their audit report. During an interview on KTN, he said the budget was made during former governor William Kabogo’s government.

Kabogo has told the governor to stop shifting blame and that he should consult with the county assembly.

The latest blame has been put on his political enemies whom he has accused of intimidating leaders who support DP William Ruto.

‘From the ongoing arrests and intimidation, it is no longer a secret that this is 2022 politics at play and the players in this scheme are known. Let them remain assured that we are strongly behind our Deputy Party Leader’ he said.

Already, there are calls from various sections for the governor to be arrested and arraigned.

Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang said that the Auditor General has 45 days to present a report on the issue.

“If there is no credible explanation, we will ask Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to investigate and prosecute those involved in what looks like a clear case of theft of public funds,” Kajwang told a local daily.
