Throwback to the Manchester United team that won back to back league titles

Manchester City’s win over Manchester United on Wednesday night all but ended Liverpool’s hopes of winning this season’s Premier League title despite leading the table for large portions o the season. It means baring a surprise dropped points from Pep Guardiola’smen in the final 3 games of the season, his side will retain the title they won comfortably last season.

It will be the fist time a team has defended the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United did it in 2009.Here we take a look at that great team from 10 years ago…

Defence

Dutch legend Edwin Van Der Sar stood in goal where he was as good as any keeper has even been for Manchester United that season. Infront of him were Serbain no nonsense center back Nemanja Vidic and English defender Rio Ferdinand. On the left wing was France International Patrice Evra and on the right was the excellent Gary Neville.

Midfield

Micheal Carrick was brilliant at the center of the pack aided by Paul Scholes. Brazilian international Anderson also played a big part while the like of Darren Flecther and Owen Hargreaves contribute to the success too. Park Ji Sung always chipped in with important goals whenever called upon as did Darron Gibson.

Wings

Cristiano Ronaldo was still the best player in the World and scoring goals for fun from the flanks. He was assisted by veteran Ryan Giggs and his compatriot Luis Nani while Federico Macheda played an integral part too.

Strikers

This was where Manchester United was at their strongest at the time, Wayne Rooney led the attack alongside Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov. Together they helped Manchester United retain the title and play in the Champions League final for the second year in a row!
