Reasons why Wise Ruto snubed Kabarak, opted for Kabimoi, Jonathan Moi’s Home

Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday visited the home of the late Jonathan Moi, son to retired President Danial Arap Moi in Kabimoi Baringo County.

The DP was accompanied by leaders among them Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis and Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament Moses Lessonet.

Ruto was welcomed to the home by the late Jonathan Moi’s family members as well as area residents and other local leaders.

In a move that was seen as a wise decision from the Dp, Ruto instead of flocking to Kabarak, mzee Moi’s home, decided to take his condolence message directly to Kabimoi, Late Jonathan Moi’s home.

In doing so, wise Ruto avoided an unnecessary ugly confrontation that could have ensued between him and Gideon Moi. Gideon and Ruto have not been in good terms owing to the political differences between the two who are struggling to control the rich vote Rift Valley.

Moi’s family through their family spokesperson had earlier on indicated that they will not receive politicians in person at Kabarak home to deliver their condolence messages since the family needed to mourn privately.

The Deputy President was among other leaders who sent their messages of condolences to the family of the late Jonathan Moi.

“Saddened by the passing on of Jonathan Toroitich, son of former President Moi. Jonathan made his name as an enthusiastic, competitive and masterful rally driver. He was sociable, affable and loved a good laugh.” Said DP Ruto.

The late Jonathan chose to concentrate on his businesses in the agriculture, real estate, and insurance sectors.


The 66-year-old was mostly known for his love of Safari Rally that saw him participate in several competitions.


He was the first-born son to former President Moi and his late wife Lena.
His siblings are Gideon, Jennifer, John Mark, Raymond, Philip, June, and Doris.
