Now let us put this into perspective, if you earn 20k per month, you will be contributing 300 shillings every month with the hope of owning a house worth around 2 million shillings.
In one year, you will have sh. 3600. You will need at least 40 years to own a house worth 2 million. But the government says that the houses will be awarded like a lottery meaning you and your grandchildren will die without seeing a house.
Now, if the money contributed in this housing levy is mismanaged, then the guilty party will be charged around 10,000 shillings, which is very little money compared to the millions that you be fined if you don’t pay in time.
Now the Jubilee government has a history of disobeying court orders. The implementation of this Fuel Levy is a matter before the courts. But just like they did with Huduma Namba, they are pushing ahead with this nonsense.
Housing Fund Levy was suspended by the Court in proceedings where the GoK is a party. Disregard of the rule of law and disobedience of Court Orders is the highest form of corruption in Kenya. Alafu pia, we must ask ourselves how a government that is unable to fight corruption is planning to now build houses. NHIF and NSSF have been riddled with corruption.
Now that all our leaders have decided to come together and condemn us to eternal poverty, it is time for Kenyans to stand up and fight for their rights.
One of the fundamental problems with this ambitious programme is that it assumes that owning a home is a priority among low-income households in cities such as Nairobi. This has proved to be a wrong assumption time and again.
Kenyans! The time to go to the streets is NOW! This #HousingFundLevy will be collected and then end up in Cartel’s pockets. We can’t accept this. Where will employers get the money to remit to the Government? Companies are bleeding, employees have already been pushed to the wall.
