Ruto will still be president, MP Oyioka tells Atwoli

COTU Secretary General is under scrutiny after he made questionable remarks regarding the fate of DP Ruto 2022 succession.

One of DP Ruto’s ally Bonchari MP John Oyioka has warned Mr Atwoli over his remarks.

While speaking at Suneka market Oyioka said, “It is unacceptable for Atwoli to underestimate DP Ruto. The COTU secretary general should focus on defending workers’ rights and keep off DP Ruto’s presidency.”

In addition he said, that the COTU SG will not succeed in breaking the political bond between DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta. 

“Atwoli need to know DP Ruto will run for the presidency in 2022. He is no one in the country’s politics to decide on who should be on the ballot and who should not be on the ballot,” stated Oyioka. 

The lawmaker appealed to Atwoli to focus on uniting Western Kenya leaders and asked the Deputy President to ignore Atwoli terming him a confused individual seeking relevance.  

The legislators remarks came after Atwoli assured residents of Lamu that the DP will not by any chance be at the ballot box come 2022.

The statement created uproar among DP Ruto allies who have been campaigning for him to take up the seat in 2022 after President Kenyatta’s term is over.
