Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana’s woes keep piling up as the days go by with reports of him being immersed in a huge corruption and fraud scandal at Kilifi County now knocking at his door.
It will be remembered that Mungatana, who just recently lost his wife has been fighting off the corruption claims since 2016 when a businesswoman named Lucy Wanjugu Kibogodi claimed the politician used her company as a conduit to illegally receive Ksh9.1 million from the Kilifi County Goverment.
Mungatana denied the claims by Lucy, a director of Zohal Services Limited, which was named as one of the beneficiaries of the loot.
Wanjugu swore an affidavit in 2016 claiming Mungatana was part of the theft engineered through IFMIS.
Well, seems like the ghost of that loot is still haunting Hon. Mungatana.
The self proclaimed Mamba Eater has today been arrested by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over the alleged theft of Ksh.51.5 million from Kilifi County coffers.
Mungatana who was arrested in Nairobi on Wednesday night and taken to Malindi.
The former legislator was arrested alongside seven other officials among them four Kilifi County officials and two business persons.
The Director of Public Prosecution however says that they are pursuing 14 others in the same racket.
The 21 suspects will face charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property, uttering false documents and dealing with proceeds of crime.
