Joblessness got a middle-aged man in Nairobi finding a spot for playing cop.

Samuel Mbugua Wainaina was on Tuesday charged with impersonating a police officer.

He accused to have pretended to be a police officer on April 5 and arrested Patrick Wambua who was a hawker without written permission from the Inspector general of police.

Police caught up with him and arrested him at Globe Cinema roundabout with an accomplice who escaped.

Samuel therefore appeared at the Milimani court before Principal Magistrate, Francis Andayi.

He other than impersonation faced a separate count of possessing police handcuffs at the same place and time. The charge sheet read that the handcuffs were reasonably suspected to have been stolen or obtained unlawfully.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a bond of Sh 100,000 with an alternative of Sh 50,000 cash bail. Something that also worked against him as he pleaded for leniency.

“Your honour I am jobless and have no one to stand for me as surety, kindly consider giving me very lenient cash bail,” Samuel said.

He was however dismissed, while he awaits trial on May 5.
