Video: Tottenham Hold Historical Celebration in New Stadium; Danny Rose Unimpressed

Tottenham marked a historic awaited moment as they colourfully celebrated the opening of their their brand new stadium on Wednesday evening.

After numerous delays and questions over if they’d actually be able to move in this season, a home game against Crystal Palace was marked as the ideal occasion.

And before kickoff, as you’d expect, Spurs hosted a special opening ceremony at the new White Hart Lane and made a song and dance of their big evening – quite literally.

After the players emerged onto the turf, a couple of guests were also invited on the pitch to sing a rendition of ‘Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur’ in front of the 62,000 fans packing into the stadium.

One of those guests invited was Wynne Evans. Now, he’s probably not a name that many are familiar with – but he certainly has a voice that we’ve all heard countless times.

That’s because Evans is the voice of the Go Compare adverts and is famous for bellowing out that catchy insurance comparison jingle on UK TV.

So, rather than inviting a massive music star to mark the first match in their new home, Spurs opted for the Go Compare guy to belt out their chant.

And it certainly didn’t disappoint. Check out the opera singers’ rather unorthodox performance below – (skip to 1 hour and 56 minutes of the live stream).

Evans of course, wasn’t randomly just asked to sing at the opening ceremony. The Welshman is a massive Tottenham fan and singing at the new ground was no doubt a very special moment for him.

Although, Danny Rose didn’t seem massively impressed with everything going on around him, judging by his brilliant reaction to it all.

Incredible. Modern football at its finest.
