Operations stall after JKIA Terminal fire

Terminal 1 C at JKIA cordoned off following a fire incidence

Operations at Terminal C of Jomo Kenyatta international airport (JKIA)were brought to a standstill following fire break out on Wednesday, at around 11:44 pm.

For safety purposes, the KAA has closed the terminal C and issued a statement on the cause of fire.

In the statement, KAA confirmed that the fire was caused by a malfunction of the baggage belts system and spread to check-in counters 7and 8

All the passengers and staff at the terminal were evacuated safely by the airport’s fire team with no injuries reported throughout the incident.

Following the incident, terminal 1C which handles international departures has temporarily been closed down and its flight operations moved to the adjacent Terminal 1B.
