Real Madrid’s returning manager, Zinedine Zidane named a strange team list ahead of La Liga clash with Huesca on Sunday night, but most of all was the inclusion of his son Luca Zidane ahead of Keylor Navas and Thibaut Courtois. The French legend has defended the reason for playing the young goalkeeper.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has defended picking his child Luca in goal for his side’s 3-2 triumph at home to Huesca on Sunday.
With Thibaut Courtois out injured in the wake of enduring damage on international obligation and Keylor Navas, Zidane chose to give Luca, Real’s third-decision shot-plug, his first La Liga appearance of the battle.
Real were made to buckle down for their success, yet they in the long run figured out how to win obligingness of Karim Benzema’s late strike, and Zidane was resolved that choosing 20-year-old Luca was the right choice.
As reported by The Mirror, Zidane said: ‘I am happy for him. For his debut here, with a victory.
‘But that is Luca, he is the third keeper. Thibaut was out and I wanted to give Keylor a rest after playing with his country. It came out well.’
A graduate of Real’s academy, Luca Zidane joined the club while his father was still playing for Los Blancos. Luca, a France U20 international, made his first appearance for Real’s senior side against Villarreal at the end of last season.
Zinedine Zidane recently rejoined Real as manager and has now guided the club to two successive victories since his return.
The Frenchman made the decision to drop Courtois, who has received much criticism for his performances this season, for his first game back in charge, which Real won 2-0 against Celta Vigo.
It will be intriguing to see who Zidane selects to start in goal when Real return to action on Wednesday with a trip to face Valencia.
