Akothee to be honoured by Pokot community

Celebrated coastal base musician Esther Akoth aka Akothee won the hearts of many when she raised over Ksh3 million for food and water to drought victims in the neighbouring Turkana county.

Now the Pokot community has decided to show their appreciation by crowning her for her noble heart at Tiaty in Baringo county.

“Our people here in Baringo, especially in Tiaty, are equally hungry. In fact, they are growing emaciated daily while a number of them have lost their lives since January owing to starvation,” Philomena Chepokamoi said.

Chepokamoi spoke on Saturday when Pokot professionals distributed 150 bags of maize to hunger victims at Komolion village. They were led by Nairobi-based senior principal magistrate Linus Limatiang, his colleagues and friends.

Mary Chepochombus and Milka Cheposokong said Pokot women have prepared a full set of a well-decorated traditional skin attire to give Akothee anytime she lands in Baringo.

Akothee is controversial due to her provocative dance styles. Her performances have sparked a national debate on decency.

Pokot elders have at the same time invited President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko to be made elders of the community.

“This is to appreciate the Jubilee government for moving fast last week to save our people’s lives by supplying us with relief food,” Arekwen Lokdir said.
