New political move? Chronicles of Ruto’s supporters in ‘Yellow T-Shirts’!

As the deputy president William Ruto attended church service on Sunday at St Martin Catholic Church Karuri in Kiambaa, Ruto’s supporters were busy positioning themselves outside the church waiting for the service to end.

When the DP finally got out, they started chanting slogans in support of his presidency and demanded that he addresses them.

Left with no option, the DP gave in and addressed the crowd that had gathered around the helicopter.

But one thing left many tongues wagging and guessing; The supports who were nearly all youths were in branded yellow t-shirts and had a banner which was inscribed, “Dr. William Samoei Ruto, Our Choice 2022.”

Many questioned the choice of the yellow colour and what it could signify as far as 2022 political re-alignments are concerned.

Lately, deputy president William Ruto has not been in good terms with his party’s boss Uhuru Kenyatta since the much-hyped handshake between the president and opposition leader Raila Odinga in March 2018.

Ruto and his camp have been accusing the opposition leader of taking advantage of the handshake to infiltrate and rock Jubilee party in within something that Ruto’s camp observe as a strategy by Raila to finish Ruto politically before 2022.

Raila and Uhuru had been vocal in wars against corruption and this has put Ruto in sharp loggerheads with his boss.

The emergence of Yellow branded t-shirts re-kindles the memories of Ruto’s former URP party which was well known for the colour before merging with President Kenyatta’s TNA in 2017 to form jubilee party.

Many analysts read a sinister indication that Ruto might have given up on the jubilee party and is now strategizing himself for a new political vehicle if not reviving his former URP party.

If today’s indication is something to go by, then it is only a matter of time before the Jubilee party comes down crumbling as Ruto and his brigade moves to a new ‘yellow’ house in readiness for 2022 political showdown with his main rival Raila Odinga who is yet to declare his candidature officially.
