Fake condoms, fake lubricant oils & fake phones and more crime news making headlines

Police, through the Anti-Counterfeit Agency have arrested five people suspected to be running an illegal lubricant oil filling plant in Kariokor.

The agency said the facility was disguised as a garage.

Mr Ibrahim Bulle, the agency’s boss, said that the five will be arraigned in court.

DCI detectives acting on information Tuesday evening recovered a large consignment of rolls of Garments-worth millions of shillings-in a GoDown at Mabruk House in Eastleigh.

The consignment was reported stolen on 14th March 2019 while on Transit from Mombasa Port to Changamwe Mega EPZ.

“We also seized packaging equipment and oil worth Sh3 million. They were also in possession of brand labels of Shell, Total Kenya and National oil,” he said.

This came just hours after officers attached to the agency nabbed fake phones and phone accessories along the Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi.

Early last year, men were advised be extremely cautious when buying the Trust Studded condoms lest they land in big trouble for making partners conceive by using fake condoms produced by rent hunters.

Health experts warn that such faux products not only expose one to risks such as bursting during sex but are also made of substances that are harmful to the human body. Most of the cheap lubricating oil such underground manufacturers use produces a deadly smell, a nauseating one.

In 2013, detectives stormed a Chinese illegal production line producing millions of counterfeit brand-name condoms. These were close to perfect in appearance, imitations of top brands including Durex, Contex and Jissbon.

Elsewhere in Nairobi, police have started investigations into the death of a street boy whose body was found on a river bank in Riverside, Ngara.

In Gatundu, police have arrested a middle aged man alleged to be a notorious illicit brew dealer.

Police say the man has been dodging them for long but they got hold of him on Tuesday night.
